25-Foot Cedar Hedge Trimming in Pickering
Professional trimming of a mature 25-foot cedar hedge to reduce overextended side growth, improve access and restore a cleaner, more controlled hedge line.
Amberlea, Pickering
Project Overview
This mature cedar hedge in Pickering had reached approximately 25 feet tall and developed heavy, overextended growth along the side facing the backyard and pool area. The dense branches were taking up valuable space, narrowing the grass strip and extending toward the interlocking walkway.
The project focused on reducing and refining the accessible side of the hedge while maintaining its established height, privacy and overall density. Long and uneven branches were selectively trimmed back to create a straighter, cleaner hedge line without cutting excessively into the older interior wood.
Due to the height of the cedar hedge, specialized orchard ladders and scaffolding were used to safely reach the upper growth. The narrow working area between the hedge, lawn, stonework and pool required careful equipment placement and controlled trimming throughout the project.
Branches were removed gradually in manageable sections to protect the pool, interlocking stones, lawn and surrounding property. All cut cedar material and loose debris were collected and removed, leaving the backyard cleaner, more open and easier to maintain.

Challenges
- The cedar hedge was approximately 25 feet tall, requiring specialized access equipment to safely reach and trim the upper sections.
- The available working area was narrow and positioned directly beside a swimming pool, interlocking walkway, lawn and landscape stone. Equipment and cut material had to be carefully managed to prevent damage to the surrounding surfaces and property.
- The hedge also contained dense, established growth. Because cedar does not reliably regenerate from old bare wood, the side needed to be reduced carefully while preserving enough green foliage to maintain a healthy, full appearance.
Our Solutions
- The hedge was assessed from end to end to establish a consistent trimming line and determine how much growth could be safely removed without exposing excessive bare interior wood.
- Specialized orchard ladders and scaffolding were positioned along the narrow poolside area to provide controlled access to the full height of the hedge. Long and overextended branches were gradually reduced in sections, allowing the side to be brought back into a cleaner and more uniform shape.
- Trimming remained within viable green growth wherever possible to preserve the hedge’s privacy and established appearance. Cut branches were managed carefully around the pool, stonework and lawn before all cedar material and debris were removed from the property.
