Juniper Restoration and Tree Trimming in North York

Restoration of overgrown front yard junipers combined with selective tree limb removal to improve shape, property clearance and separation from overhead service lines.

North York, Toronto

Project Overview

This North York front yard had several mature junipers that had become heavily overgrown, uneven and visually crowded around the home’s entrance and front window. A neighbouring deciduous tree had also developed large branches extending toward the house and overhead service lines. The project combined selective tree limb removal with detailed juniper restoration. Larger limbs creating interference near the building and overhead lines were carefully reduced to create a more open and controlled canopy. The work focused on the branches requiring attention rather than unnecessarily reducing the entire tree. The mature junipers were then selectively pruned and reshaped to reduce excessive growth, improve definition and restore a more balanced appearance. Dense and overextended sections were carefully thinned while preserving established green foliage and the natural character of the plantings. The completed work opened the front yard, improved visibility around the home and created a cleaner separation between the trees, shrubs, building and overhead lines. All cut branches and landscaping debris were collected and removed from the property.

Challenges

  • The mature junipers had developed dense, irregular growth that extended outward into the lawn and crowded the front window, entrance and surrounding landscape. Because junipers do not reliably regenerate from old bare wood, the plants needed to be reduced carefully without cutting too deeply into the interior.
  • The deciduous tree beside the driveway had several large limbs extending toward the neighbouring home and overhead service lines. The branches required controlled removal within a confined front yard surrounded by buildings, shrubs, lawn and utility infrastructure.
  • The work also needed to improve the overall appearance of the property while preserving the established trees and shrubs rather than severely reducing them.

Our Solutions

  • The tree was assessed from multiple angles to identify the branches creating the greatest amount of interference near the home and overhead lines. Selected limbs were removed in controlled sections, improving separation while maintaining the remaining canopy and natural form of the tree.
  • The junipers were restored gradually by reducing long, overextended branches and removing selected crowded growth. The pruning remained within viable green foliage wherever possible to avoid exposing excessive bare interior wood.
  • Each shrub was individually shaped rather than cut into a rigid hedge form. This preserved the mature character of the junipers while creating better definition, improved clearance and a more balanced relationship between the plantings and the home.
  • All branches and debris were collected and removed, leaving the front yard clean and significantly more open.
