Overhanging Cedar Trimming in North York

Project Overview
Dense cedar growth had extended over the roofline, with branches reaching across the shingles and creating ongoing contact with the structure. Selective trimming was completed to restore separation between the cedar and roof while maintaining the privacy and fullness of the surrounding hedge.
The work focused specifically on the branches interfering with the roof rather than heavily reducing the entire cedar. Overhanging growth was carefully cut back from the roof edge, shingles and nearby vent to improve access and reduce the accumulation of needles, leaves and small branches.
Because the cedar was dense and positioned directly beside the structure, the trimming required careful access and controlled removal to avoid damaging the roof, gutter and surrounding vegetation.
Once the necessary clearance was created, loose branches and debris were removed from the roof surface and surrounding area, leaving the roofline cleaner and more accessible.

Challenges
- Dense cedar branches had grown directly over the roof edge and were resting close to the shingles and gutter line. The branches needed to be reduced without unnecessarily removing too much of the cedar or creating large visible gaps in the hedge.
- The limited space between the roof and cedar also required careful positioning and controlled trimming to protect the shingles, gutter, roof vent and surrounding growth.
Our Solutions
- The cedar was assessed from the roofline to identify the branches creating the most contact and interference. Selective cuts were made to reduce only the growth extending over the structure while preserving the overall density and privacy of the hedge.
- Branches were removed gradually and in manageable sections to avoid damaging the roof or pulling additional growth onto the shingles. Once adequate clearance was established, loose needles, leaves and cut material were cleared from the roof and removed from the property.
